Possible Sanctions
The Student Code and You - Choose to be Informed!
The information provided below is to highlight possible consequences for typical policy violations of The Student Code and is not absolute; individual circumstances will be reviewed in detail before a decision is rendered. Aggravating factors will also be considered. Please see The Student Code for a description of all sanctions.
Alcohol Violations
- Underage possession or use of alcohol: Warning, Alcohol and Other Drug Services (AOD) program
- Underage possession or use of alcohol, second offense: University Probation, Removal and ban from Housing, AOD program
- Possession of a common source of alcohol: University Probation, Removal from Housing, AOD program
- DUI/DWI: University Suspension, AOD program, University Probation upon readmission and Loss of parking/driving on campus privileges upon readmission
- Procurement of alcohol for minors: University Suspension, AOD program, University Probation upon readmission
Drug Violations
- Possession and/or use of illegal drugs or of legal medication which is being used outside the parameters of a medical authorization: University Suspension, AOD program, University Probation upon readmission
- Intent to sell, distribute, or manufacture: University Expulsion
Assault/threatening behavior
- Non-sexual: University Suspension, Permanent Removal from Housing
- Sexual: University Expulsion
Damage
- Throwing items out of a residence hall window: University Probation, Removal from Housing, restitution
- Misuse of or damage to University property: University Probation, Removal from Housing, restitution
The information below highlights behaviors that may result in the most serious of possible sanctions: Removal from Housing, Suspension, or Expulsion. The below information is not absolute. Any violation can result in Removal from Housing, Suspension or Expulsion depending on the factors and individual circumstances of the case.
Violations which will generally result in Removal from Housing:
- Multiple alcohol/drug violations
- Possession or being in the presence of a common source container (e.g., keg, beer ball)
- Possession or being in the presence of an excessive amount of alcohol
- Throwing items out of a residence hall window
- Misuse of or damage to University property
- Falsifying housing selection information or improperly gaining access to the room selection process
- Providing false information and/or being uncooperative with University staff members
Violations which will generally result in Suspension or Expulsion:
- Any violation of The Student Code if you are currently on University probation
- Participating in or inciting others to participate in the violent disruption of any University activity
- Physical assault or abuse
- Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Possession or use of illegal drugs
- Intent to and/or sale, distribution of controlled substances and/or drugs
- Distributing alcohol/drugs to minors
- Sexual misconduct
- Serious or multiple cases of academic misconduct
- Falsifying University information
- Theft of property
Any mandated referral to the services offered by the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Services includes a user fee that will be assessed to students' University account.
Please know the decisions you make may have consequences. Some consequences may be more severe than others depending upon the situation. Remember, as a student at the University of Connecticut, you are responsible for your own actions!
